nines!

On December 29th, my twins turned nine! Nine years ago, these two, tiny boys stole my heart, made me a mother, and made me complete.  I cannot even believe they are in their last year of single digits.  How did that even happen?!?
It's rough luck that their birthday is so close to Christmas, but we try to make the day special for them anyway.
Kade:  What can I even say about this kid?  He never ceases to amaze me.  He is so passionate about what he wants to be passionate about, and lets everything else go.  This makes him very competitive, and very focused on the things that interest him.  But because he's so focused on those things, he has very little room left for caring about things like keeping his room clean.
He is still full of so much energy, and never stops moving.  He is constantly jumping around, climbing on the couches, throwing balls around (inside the house), and I'm not sure where he gets so much energy!
The only time he stops moving is when he is reading.  He has become quite the little reader lately, and is currently in the middle of the fifth Harry Potter book.  He also likes to read easier, funny chapter books, and he will re-read the parts he likes, over and over again.  If Kade is home and not making noise/bouncing around the house, it's because he has found a book and is reading it!
I asked Kade a few questions, and these are his answers:
~What's your favorite color? Red
~What's your favorite book? Art2-D2 (This is an origami book that he just got yesterday.  This fits perfectly with what I mentioned above about his passion; because it's new and he loves it, he loves it fiercely and has no room in his head for anything else at the moment.)
~What is your favorite TV show?  Studio C (if you haven't watched this, you must!  It's BYU's version of SNL-type sketch comedy.  It's clean and hilarious! Check it out on YouTube).
~What's your favorite movie? Big Hero 6
~What's your favorite subject at school? Reading
~What is your favorite thing you did when you were 8?  Went to Grandma and Grandpa's house on vacation this summer

Ky:  This kid is awesome!  He is also super passionate about things, but he is always willing to give up something he wants if he sees that doing so will make someone else happy.  That doesn't mean that his tender heart doesn't feel sad when he doesn't get his way, just that he would rather feel disappointment himself, than watch someone else be disappointed.  He is my most selfless child by a mile!  He continues to love to create.  I often find him drawing quietly by himself.  And, he's very good at it!  He also still loves to create stories and presentations on the computer, and he recently discovered Photoshop.  I think his mind was blown when I showed him a very quick summary of the things he could do to a photo in Photoshop.  After his brief 15 minute tutorial, he was able to combine pictures, and add backgrounds, and change some things to make some pretty awesome pictures.

I asked Ky the same questions, and here are his answers:
~What's your favorite color? White
~What's your favorite book? Harry Potter #4
~What is your favorite TV show?  Lab Rats
~What's your favorite movie? Big Hero 6
~What's your favorite subject at school? Art
~What is your favorite thing you did when you were 8?  Went to Grandma and Grandpa's house on vacation this summer

The above picture is an accurate representation of their relationship--they love to tease each other, but they are still the Best. Of. Friends.
Watching these two grow up together, learning from one another, sharing inside jokes, learning how to reconcile differences, protecting each other, daring each other, making each other laugh, competing against one another, trying to define themselves as individuals, all the while remaining a solid team, is a magical gift as a mother.  No joke, sometimes it hits me all over again that I have twins (!!) and I feel so lucky to be a part of such a unique and special relationship!
Happy Birthday Kade and Ky!
These boys are hilarious, smart, fun, outgoing, happy, and oh so handsome!  I'm glad they are mine!
Their birthday was filled with fun things!  Bart took them to play laser tag in the afternoon.  They got to open a few presents, and have their special birthday dinner in the evening.  They requested homemade potstickers (again) and spaghetti squash.  After dinner, they took a friend to a local indoor sports facility that was hosting a sports night and had lots of fun running around with lots of kids their age.

We finished the night off with their birthday "cake" which, per their request, was really "plain brownies with the flaky top and no frosting" which they decorated themselves with a Minecraft Creeper.
